Cheryl Tschanz’s ability as a pianist was recognized early. At seven, Clavier magazine described her as having "startling qualities of great talent." She attended the Cleveland Institute of Music and, at eleven, made her major orchestral debut as guest soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra. Since then, she has played in solo performances and with orchestras and chamber music groups throughout the United States, Canada, France, Italy and Finland. She received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Indiana University and holds a Doctorate from State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her principal teachers were Ruth Edwards, Boris Berman and Gilbert Kalish. A dedicated teacher for over thirty years, Ms Tschanz was an assistant professor of music at Colby College from 1991-2008, where she directed the piano and accompanying programs. She currently lives in Celebration, Florida where she maintains a private teaching studio and has an active solo and chamber performance schedule.

Tschanz is a pianist of impressive technical accomplishments who plays with conviction and an appealing pianistic flair. She was at her best in the powerfully dramatic portions of the score" - The Herald-Telephone (Indiana)
"…a wonderful young pianist - playing was full of character and a pleasure to hear" - New York Times
"…a patently strong technician (one noted her stunning articulation of the difficult fugal subject throughout the third movement of the Brahms E minor Sonata), and, as a musician, almost clairvoyant about sensing the cellist’s phrasing and rubato" - Strad Magazine
